Echinacea's growing in my garden by Linda Young

There are also black eyed Susans in my garden which keeps pushing these pretty little echinacea flowers around every year.  Every year I've had them, they have found a new place to grow away from the "susans".  You'd think the susans would get the hint:  The Echinacea don't like to be near you, so leave them alone!

Every year a new clutch of Cardinal babies arrive in our pine tree; every year the father and mother yap at me to get off my patio because I'm in their space!  So, this time, I left my "perch" and ran upstairs to get on an even level with the baby and father Cardinal.  I watched from a place they didn't expect me to be and took the picture of daddy feeding his offspring which I have placed into a small painting.

It had rained early in the day; but by noon, the skies were overcast and the rains had gone.  The night before, I had talked to my husband about having a picnic here.  I could paint and he could take his camera and get some good shots of the scenery with the beautiful multi-colored azaleas that were blooming there.
Thanks to Clare Klaum for telling me about it because it was worth the trip. John got some great pictures and I was happy to be able to be here today.

Doodling with the doggie toys by Linda Young

Pencil drawings for me are difficult, so the best I could do for the black and white challenge is a doodle of my two dog's toys which are scattered all over my living room floor!  Near them is a cardboard toy box that is full of chewies, balls and kongs.  Their bed is disheveled with their blanket tossed across it.  Somehow my black slipper always finds it's way down here from our bedroom.  The slipper is Hannah's favorite thing to steal from under the bed and run as fast as she can down the stairs to play with it.  I didn't even miss the slipper until I noticed it when I was drawing.  Kaysi's favorite toy is ALL of them, especially when Hannah tries to play with just one.

My living room is not my own; but is the dog's play pen.

Cleaning up my studio, I found the "start" of a watercolor that was to be a painting five years ago.  I, however, gave up on it and it wasn't until the clean up today I evaluated it:  I had put an over-abundance of very bright colors in that underpainting. 
Because of the flashes of color that pond fish make in the bright sunlight, I kept most of them and attempted to paint the negative shapes.  Here's my submission for this month's Daily Painter's of Pa challenge that I call "Flash Dancers".

Along the Fenceline

An icy snowy morning awaits us in the days ahead; but I'm not looking forward to those cold days of Winter.  Depending what part of the country you come from, the Wooly worm either predicts a long cold winter (lots of black on it's body) or a mild one (lots of brown).  I think I'll just sit by the fire with my honey, my Westies and a nice glass of wine.  Cheers!

I didn't have time to create a new painting this month due to other committments; but knew I had this one to post before the end of the month.  I like the looseness and the colors within the apples and reflective color around them.

While my husband was driving his race car around one of the Summit Point Race way track, I sat and painted this lily.  Usually, I'm the one checking the air in his tires, etc.; but he had plenty of extra help this weekend and didn't need my assistance.  Good for me! The night before this, I drew the main flower of the lily to be able to paint it at the races. 

Sitting under the canopy and with drivers and friends walking in and out to see what I was doing; I painted, conversed, walked the dogs, and returned to paint some more.  I used only a black and white photo copy of this painting because I didn't want to limit myself to the actual colors of the original photo;  I wanted to use imagination--still using reds in mine. 

This painting was done at the Jefferson Circuit of Summit Point Raceway.  Therefore, the painting just has to be tited "The Jefferson Lily".
