OCTOBER 2012 CHALLENGE
QUILTS
Hosted by Sue Marrazzo

TITLE: QUILTED VISION
MEDIUM: COLLAGE
SIZE: 12" X 12"
SUBSTRATE: BRACED PANEL
ARTIST: SUE MARRAZZO

This October, DPP will pay tribute to QUILTS. QUILTS are made with function as their first priority: aesthetic concerns are secondary. Still in quilt making there is a love of beauty and attention to design in each and every QUILT. QUILTS are more than blankets to warm sleeping bodies. The makers of QUILTS use quilting as a way to show their individual creative expression. Please take this challenge and express your LOVE of QUILTS in your choice of medium. Feel free to share your quilt memories, and stories too.

I'LL HAVE A SIDE ORDER OF FUNGUS, PLEASE
An Original Oil Painting by
Claire Beadon Carnell

Thanks so much to Pat Koscienski for hosting this month's DPP Challenge.
You still have three days to submit any entry!

'I'll Have a Side Order of Fungus, Please''
Oil on Canvas
8 x 6

You never know where your inspiration will come from...
I was in the very long, and very slow line of cars at
the Wendy's Drive-In window in Carlisle waiting to
get some of their GF chili for lunch.  As I was getting closer to
my goal, I saw something in the crotch of the tree that grows
right by the curve that gets you closer to where you
can place your order.  I had to do a double-take,  were those
some small alien ships hovering in the shelter of that tree?  No, it
was three delightful fungi that had attached themselves
to the tree and were flourishing - must be the Wendy's chili!

I painted this for the DPP Challenge Blog, hosted this month by
Daily Painters of Pennsylvania Artist Pat Koscienski.

October's Challenge will be hosted by Sue Marrazzo

Backyard Mushrooms - impressionistic acrylic ACEO painting by Pennsylvania Painter Pat Koscienski

Backyard Mushrooms
2.5" x 3.5"
ACEO
Acrylic

I found these mushrooms growing in the backyard and decided to paint them.   I have been trying to post this for several weeks.  However, everytime I tried to insert the photo it was posted in the vertical position.  I finally edited the photo and rotated it to the vertical position and when I posted it, it posted in the horizontal.  If anyone else has had this problem and knows the solution, please let me know.  This obviously worked, but is very time consuming.  If you have any questions, or wish to purchase, please contact PAT.  If you wish to see more of my paintings, please visit my website and blogspot at:

Fungus Among Us by Daily Painter of Pennsylvania Mary Beth Brath

Fungus Among Us
6x12" Acrylic Alla Prima

Well...Claire put out a reminder about this month's challenge and I took the bait. I may decide to touch this up...or leave it alone...not sure yet.

I searched around my yard to paint the mushrooms plein air but could not find any today. So I went way back to photos I took in 2008 while at our family cabin in Northwestern PA.  Thank you Pat for hosting the challenge.  I have always wanted to paint mushrooms and this made me focus on the subject.

Heirloom Veggies by Rebecca Jennings

Three of these veggies grew in my garden.... the tomato is a figment of my imagination :) The tomatoes in my garden are a Roma variey, but I have been hungry for a sandwich made from
these big ol' tomatoes!!
This 8" x 16" oil is painted on prepared natural luan with the background
left as is, a different exercise for me.

Echinacea's growing in my garden by Linda Young

There are also black eyed Susans in my garden which keeps pushing these pretty little echinacea flowers around every year.  Every year I've had them, they have found a new place to grow away from the "susans".  You'd think the susans would get the hint:  The Echinacea don't like to be near you, so leave them alone!
