"Monet Pond" by Tatiana Myers

This one is the latest painting I finished just last night. It was a small commission for the client who wanted me to paint this little pond with the bridge at Monet residence. I had a blast working on this painting starting from part of studying several dozens of photos showing Monet Gardens... When I found out that at spring this little bridge is covered with blooms of my beloved Wisteria, I knew - this is what I want to paint. Monet water-gardens are famous for their water lilies, but I had to give it up for the sake of purple. My client didn't see the painting yet, I hope he will like this version, but if not... of well, I still like it!

LAKESIDE, FALL COLORS by Sharon Benner

Lakeside, Fall Colors was a demonstration painting done at the Hanover Area Arts Guild. The plein air equipment and process were explained while I painted using a photo and a thumbnail value sketch. The center of interest was the yellow tree but I painted the reflections as a subtle mass to support the yellow tree. The orange overhanging branches came forward. My message was "find a simple subject and paint it beautifully."

It had rained early in the day; but by noon, the skies were overcast and the rains had gone.  The night before, I had talked to my husband about having a picnic here.  I could paint and he could take his camera and get some good shots of the scenery with the beautiful multi-colored azaleas that were blooming there.
Thanks to Clare Klaum for telling me about it because it was worth the trip. John got some great pictures and I was happy to be able to be here today.

Sky and Water Demonstration, Maria Kovalenko Leysens

This is the demonstration I did for class today. We talked about cloud shapes, how this cloud was backlit and how the water color is a bounce off the sky. We also talked about calm water and rippled water and how the colors reflect off the angles of the ripples/waves. We looked at many examples and it was good to observe and learn the form/shape of things and how the light sits on the shapes.
